The Extreme Geocaching and Hiking Event.
2/29/2004
Below are a map and some links.
This hike is about 6-8 miles round trip, give or take a mile.
This event is taking place in Anza Borrego Desert, in the Jacumba Mountains. The hike is pretty intense and can be extreme. Below is the Topo map we will be using to do this, as well as descriptions and geocaching links to the caches we will be visiting as well as links to pictures of the trestle. We will be taking picture the whole trip.

The trip will start at a cache cache #1 Little Pass just off the trail on the way to the parking area for the rest of the trip. We will then proceed to the staging area for the rest of the hike just below cache #2 Griffen Rock. From there we will head up the ridgeline to cache #3 Jacumba 3446. We will take a break here and eat either snacks or lunch, depending on group decision. From there we will start our decent down to cache #4 The Goat Canyon Trestle Cache. The off to cache #5 Dos Hombres. From there we will start our way back to the parking area, taking either the same way back, or venturing off halfway back down into the palm wash where the mortero palms are, and possibley stash a cache. From there we will walk back up the wash to our vehicles and go to either cache #6 Imperial Railway, or go home. I am sure that by the time we get to the parking area we will be the living dead. We will be alive, but we will be dead from the hike, so cache #6 is way optional. Please Please Please, if you intend on going or are thinking about it, go to the cache sites listed and view the accompanying pictures. Some pictures will show you the grandiosity and extremity of this hike, and will help you understand the nature of the hike. Lots of water should be taken as well as a well packed lunch and plenty of high energy snacks. The hike itself will take us from about 2200' to about 3500' and down again. I suggest a tea called ling ji or ling chi, available at chinese herbal stores. It helps to increase oxygen absorbtion, and will help wihtthe hike. Tibetans use it to help with altitude sickness. One such herbal store is in Linda Vista next to Vien Dong Grocery Store.
